Here at Eluine Cycle, our goal is create a community where everyone feels welcome to express themselves and explore their ideas in a creative, collaborative environment inspired by the setting of Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Legacy.

Acceptance and collaboration are the qualities to which we aspire above all. To that end, we espouse supportive in- and out-of-character interactions.

Out of character, only constructive interactions are permitted. While disagreements, misunderstandings, and hurt feelings are inevitable in any group of people, we expect all parties to handle themselves with maturity and consideration for others.

OOC Guidelines:
  • Assume the best of others, and always try to be the best person you can be.
  • Be solution-oriented and positive when conflicts arise.
  • Separate yourself from drama and do not be a person who fosters it.
  • Accept that not all personality types mesh well and minimize negative influences.
  • Offer only solicited critique, and when doing so, be both constructive and encouraging.
  • Ask questions, suggest new ideas, and raise any issues you see for the forum.

In character, god-modding is not permitted, and metagaming discouraged. Most important is being supportive of other players' characters and plot arcs, which means being generous with the spotlight.

IC Guidelines:
  • Involve yourself with others and they will be happy to return the favor!
  • Only describe your character's actions and let your opponent or partner decide theirs.
  • Keep out-of-character and in-character knowledge separate.
  • Be ready to work around the mistakes or inconsistencies that occur.
  • Be accepting of characters which might not fit your particular interpretation of the setting.
  • Be receptive to collaborating with others. You certainly don't have to like every idea thrown your way, but it's more fun if you try to make counter-suggestions and brainstorm even more ideas.
  • Do respect when someone turns you down, though; sometimes folks just aren't up for a particular idea, or don't have the time and energy to start something new.
  • Ensure in-character interactions aren't taken personally. When an antagonistic scene occurs, players should communicate OOC to ensure that everyone is willing and having a satisfactory roleplay session.
  • When it comes to mature or sensitive themes, clear all subject matter with your writing partner(s) before introducing it. This includes violence, sex acts (particularly unusual ones, but any), or anything else that could be distressing to someone not prepared for it.
  • Make an effort to respond in a timely manner.

Administrators and maintainers are here to help the community grow and keep the environment positive. We have our own guidelines that we adhere to in addition to all of the above.

Administrator & Maintainer Guidelines:
  • Say "Yes!" by default.
  • Treat all members of the community as equals.
  • Apply the rules consistently.
  • Do not use past problem players as justification to impose creativity-stifling restrictions.
  • Acknowledge and apologize for mistakes.
  • Expect no special treatment.

Those that do not respect these guidelines or the spirit of the code will be given warning by an administrator, and, if necessary, removed from the community.
